November 16, 2011
Fort Myers Beach Bulletin, Fort Myers Beach Observer

Herbert A. List, 83, passed away peacefully with his family by his side in Fort Myers on Friday, Nov. 11. How fitting for this proud Marine to give his final salute on Veterans Day, 11-11-11.

Herb was born Oct. 2, 1928 in Chicago, IL. He graduated from the University of Illinois with a Bachelor of Science in Industrial Engineering in 1951. He went on to proudly serve his country in the Marine Corps from 1951-1953. He returned to Chicago to join his father, Max List, in the family business -- Superior Wire and Iron Products. Herb quickly grew the company when he entered the school equipment industry and began to manufacture lockers. In 1971, he changed the name of the company to List Industries Inc. and in 1978, moved his booming business from Harvey, IL, to South Florida where it continues to be an industry leader to this day.

Herb was a former member of Adios Golf Club, Deerfield Beach, FL, and Pine Tree Golf Club, Boynton Beach, FL, and a 50-year member of Olympia Fields Country Club in Olympia Fields, IL.
