Mulligan’s Fantasy Forecast, Week 11

November 16, 2011
By KYLE MULLIGAN , Fort Myers Beach Bulletin, Fort Myers Beach Observer

The end of the road for bye weeks is near as Week 11 marks the last set of off days for teams. After this, it's back to 16 games per week for the rest of the fantasy season and playoffs. While waiver wire activity tends to settle down after bye weeks are over, a slew of injuries to quarterbacks in the last couple of weeks will have fantasy owners scrambling to fill voids left by season-ending injuries to Matt Cassel and Matt Schaub. Just because bye weeks are over doesn't mean you can ignore the waiver wire. You just never know where fantasy value can come from (see: Matt Leinart).

GOOD MATCH UPS

Jordy Nelson vs. Buccaneers defense: Nelson is having a breakout season for the Packers and may wind up with over 1,000 yards receiving after it's all said and done. He gets a great match up this week against the Tampa Bay defense, which has allowed 263 yards per game through the air and 8.5 yards per pass attempt. Your team would have to be pretty loaded at WR to leave Nelson on your bench this week.

Marshawn Lynch vs. Rams defense: Breaking news the Rams are still the worst run defense in the league. OK, so that was the opposite of breaking news but the point remains that any half decent running back who opposes the St. Louis Rams should probably be in fantasy starting lineups every week. Lynch will have a good shot at posting his third straight 100-yard game this week.

NOT SO GOOD MATCH UPS

Cam Newton vs. Lions defense: Cam is coming off his worst performance of the fantasy season last week and things won't get any easier for him this week as the Panthers take on the Lions. Detroit is allowing just 184 yards passing and an NFL-best 5.8 yards per pass attempt. Cam's rushing ability means he won't be a complete dud, but don't expect one of his better fantasy stat lines this week.

Beanie Wells vs. 49ers defense: Last week's six point fantasy performance made it two bad games in a row for Beanie Wells and three out of his last four. His reward? The Cardinals head to San Francisco this week to face the best run defense in the NFL, the 49ers. The Niners are allowing just 3.4 yards per carry and an NFL-best 73 yards rushing per game. If Beanie couldn't manage a decent performance against a weak Eagles run defense then odds are he's not going to do so against a dominant 49ers defense.

WAIVER WIRE WATCH

Laurent Robinson, WR, Cowboys: Robinson is playing the role of Miles Austin while Austin is sidelined with a hamstring injury and he did so quite well last week, catching three passes for 73 yards and two touchdowns. Robinson will continue to get his share of looks in Austin's absence and will be a solid fantasy option for the next couple of weeks.

Teams on bye this week: Houston, Indianapolis, New Orleans, Pittsburgh
