Foot Solutions of Estero is continuing to make a differenceone shoe at a time. The store announced it has recently partnered with a program called "Shoes for the Cure", which accepts donations of used shoes to be recycled for materials and donated to charitable organizations. This partnership is in addition to the current shoe drive that Foot Solutions of Estero is holding, which provides shoe donations to the non-profit organization, Soles4Souls, and other local charities.
"Previously, we have only been able to accept gently used shoes that are still in good enough condition to be worn or restored," said Chris Cole, Owner, Foot Solutions Estero. "However, with this program, we will be able to accept shoes in any condition. Shoes that can no longer be used for footwear will be recycled for materials. This allows us to, not only help those in need, but also do our part to help the environment and reduce our carbon footprint."
Shoes for the Cure is a professional recycling company that specializes in collecting new and used footwear for recycling. Donated shoes are either reconditioned for those in need, or materials are recycled and re-used as surface material for running tracks, tennis courts, or playgrounds.
Cole added, "More than 350 million shoes a year are discarded into landfills, and each rubber soled shoe can take up to 80 years to decompose. As a footwear retailer, we feel it is part of our responsibility to help reduce this impact on the environment by making it convenient for people to recycle their used shoes."
Foot Solutions Estero has also partnered with a local Podiatrist, Dr. Jamie Weaver located in the Bonita Springs Health Center, to provide an additional drop off location for those who would like to donate or recycle used shoes.
"As a Foot and Ankle Specialist it is always my recommendation for patients to be in supportive shoe gear, to facilitate an active and healthy lifestyle," said Dr. Jamie Weaver, DPM; POD. "Foot Solutions offers an excellent selection of appropriate shoe gear for patients in recovery as well as patients taking preventative measures towards complete orthopedic health. I am pleased to partner with Foot Solutions Estero on behalf of Shoes for the Cure with the hopes of providing supportive shoe gear to those less fortunate all while helping the environment."
