Sheriff returns from meeting on child welfare
The inaugural meeting of the statewide advisory panel selected to reshape the Florida Department of Children and Families convened Thursday, June 16, in Orlando. Sheriff Scott is a member of that board and returned with renewed optimism for the Governor’s plans to reshape the agency for the betterment of child welfare in Florida.
Sheriff Scott and the other members of the advisory team met directly with DCF Secretary David Wilkins, who was appointed by Governor Rick Scott soon after he took office. Secretary Wilkins is a change agent from the corporate world and charged the team to focus on three initial areas of improvement:
1. DCF’s Hotline
2. Child Protection Investigations
3. Case Accountability and Information Management
Sheriff Scott will be concentrating on the investigative piece along with an assortment of models focusing on training, retaining and supervision of the investigators, as well as caseload management.
“My peers on the panel bring a wide variety of experience to this redesign project and I am excited to be part of what is going to be a major improvement in the way Florida protects our children,” said Scott. “It is clear to me, Secretary Wilkins and his executive leadership team are on the right track.”
