Funny how fantasy football works. Dwayne Bowe had been, arguably, the fantasy MVP over the past several weeks, hauling in touchdown after touchdown each week. He seemed like a lock for at least a good, if not great, game against a poor Denver Broncos pass defense last week. So what happens? He doesn't even catch a single pass, putting up a donut for the week. I won't complain though since his non-existent performance helped me win my division this week.
Joe Flacco vs. Texans defense: Despite the result of last week's game against Pittsburgh, Flacco played pretty solid by completing 17 of 33 pass attempts for 266 yards and a touchdown. He figures to have a much easier time this week when the Ravens take on the Houston Texans who just so happen to own what many would consider the worst pass defense in the NFL.
Knowshon Moreno vs. Cardinals defense: Moreno has averaged at least 4.5 yards per carry in each of his last four starts and he's got a few factors working in his favor this week. The first, and probably most important factor when deciding whether or not to start him this week is that he's playing against an Arizona run defense that is truly brutal to watch. The second being that the Broncos have named running backs coach Eric Studesville as their interim head coach meaning that Knowshon could see a heavier workload this week (complete speculation on my part, FYI, so take it for what it's worth).
Not so good match-ups
Brett Favre vs. Giants defense: Favre was absolutely crushed on a hit in the first quarter of last week's game against the Bills and suffered a shoulder sprain as a result. Though it's believed by many outlets that he will be medically cleared to play this week against the Giants, a banged up Brett Favre is not a good fantasy match up against one of the NFL's best pass defenses. The Giants are allowing just 193 passing yards per game this season, second best in the league.
Cedric Benson vs. Steelers defense: Benson has been a disappointment that seems to be getting worse as the season goes along. Not counting a 'gimme' against Buffalo, Benson has averaged a horrid 2.4 yards per carry over his last four games. So, how do you think he'll do this week against the NFL's best-run defense, the Pittsburgh Steelers?
Waiver wire watch
Marshawn Lynch, RB, Seahawks: Lynch had himself a nice fantasy day last Sunday when he ran for 83 yards and three touchdowns, but let's not get carried away here. (Get it? Carried away? Because he's a running back. Nevermind.) Lynch, assuming he gets anywhere even close to 21 carries again this week (which he probably won't), faces a 49ers run defense that isn't nearly as bad as San Francisco's record. Don't expect a repeat performance this week from Marshawn.
