The king and queen of local fund-raising are back and at it again. Mike DeCarlo and his lovely and trusty assistant Trish have been organizing the next poker run for the local Don Wade Foundation for several weeks, with plans in the works for Sunday, May 2.

"It's been a little while since we've held this poker run, so we knew it was time to do it again," Mike said.

"All proceeds raised from the run are going to the Don Wade Foundation it's a great cause," Trish said.

Mike DeCarlo and Tricia Kett are back to organizing the next poker run for the Don Wade Foundation, taking place Saturday, May 2. Poker-runners have a chance to ride on the air-conditioned charter bus. Pictured above, a true island gem who passed away in 2006, Lil Bette Wade always enjoyed partaking in the poker runs. Departing from the VCA (Veteran's Club of America, a.k.a. the 'Lil Club, 16701 San Carlos Blvd.), poker-runners have a chance to ride in whatever they'd like to participate whether it be a bike, trike, car, scooter, moped or the charter bus that's been reserved just for this occasion.

"If it's got wheels, you can ride it in this run,"?Mike said.

The bus will depart the Vet's Club at 10 a.m. to head to the first stop, Junkanoo, for poker run registration and a fresh breakfast. The cost to ride is $10 per hand, $10 per bus ride, or $20 total for bikers.

From there, the run begins at 11 a.m. with five stops on the board, with food provided at each of the stops (alcoholic beverages not included. Always remember, ride safe) and ending back at Junkanoo toward the later afternoon.

Stops are still yet to be determined, but the run is expected to take place throughout the Fort Myers Beach and San Carlos Island area.

Also going toward the Don Wade Foundation is the upcoming annual Don Wade Golf Tournament, scheduled for Saturday, May 8.

Again, all proceeds go to our local veterans clinic for the much needed supplies they need to operate on a daily basis.

With the support of all the local businesses and the generosity of the citizens of Fort Myers and Fort Myers Beach, they have been able to raise well over $100,000 since the tournament began.

"It's well worth it,"?Mike said. "Come out and have fun while helping a great cause."
